Upcoming Must-see Laukku Performance – “Dreaming of a Perfect Arts House”.

Laukku has been invited to participate in the Baltic Take Over festival and will perform at Kisama arts space.

The Eskus Performing Arts Centre in Helsinki, together with the Baltic Take Over festival, is hosting a residency for the LAUKKU team. This team is made up of five talented artists: Agnese Bordjukova, Agate Bankava, Inta Balode, Ginta Grūbe, and Laima Jansone, who are exploring the dialogue between construction workers and artists, two groups often overlooked in the art-making system. The performance aims to highlight socio-economic and immigration issues and create an image of a perfect art house as a meeting and dreaming place for the marginalized and privileged.

”Dreaming of a Perfect Arts House” performance marks the first stage of a larger project curated by Laukku. We aim to create a safe and modern art space in Laukku Residency, located in Kalniņi, in northern Latvia, with the ultimate goal of providing a secure environment for talented artists to create their pieces and build connections that could also benefit local communities.

The LAUKKU team will use borrowed, donated, or found materials to create their project during the residency. They’ll incorporate various objects and things that people carry to work. The performance will showcase different stages of labour, including preparation, work, breaks, shifts, celebration, and result evaluation.

The performance art piece will challenge our perceptions and spark conversations about societal issues. If you are by any chance in Helsinki on 9th June, join us for an evening of thought-provoking performance art!

Dates of the residency 22nd May – 11th June
