LAUKKU has honor to be invited to participate at the final STAGES Forum and ETC International Theatre Conference “Stage for the Truth. Which Truth?” (in Riga) with its production – Artistic Intervention “Micēliju tīklā” (In the Mycelium Network). “In the Mycelium Network” will open the program of the day at November 6th, 2025.
STAGES (Sustainable Theatre Alliance for a Green Environmental Shift) is an ambitious sustainable theatre experiment to re-imagine how the cultural sector interacts with the concept of sustainability. From 2022-2025, 14 influential theatre and academic organisations, including a European theatre network, were collaborating and touring urgent new performances on the climate crisis.
ETC (European Theatre Conference) is the largest network of publicly-funded theatres in Europe, with 78 members in over 30 countries. ECT organises a wide range of activities to create brilliant new theatre, support and develop people working in theatre, and fight for the European theatre sector in a political context.
The final STAGES Forum takes place in Riga, 5–9 November 2025, alongside the ETC International Theatre Conference, Stage for Truth. Which Truth?, and the Latvian Theatre Showcase. Hosted by Dailes Theatre, the event brings together theatre professionals from across Europe to reflect on the role of the arts in times of conflict, shifting narratives, and societal division. STAGES, being a long-term project on sustainability and green transformation in the performing arts, is coming to a close. At its final STAGES Forum it will highlight achievements, share lessons learned, and spark dialogue on how theatres can remain resilient, inclusive, and sustainable in the face of global challenges. Meanwhile ETC International Theatre Conference, titled “Stage for Truth. Which Truth” comes as global politics slides towards hostility and conflict, and cuts to culture budgets are proposed to increase spending on defense. Terms like ‘nationalism’ and ‘duty’ have re-entered public debate, while demagogue leaders dismiss plans for inclusion and equality as ‘divisive’ and ‘political’.
LAUKKU produced Artistic Intervention “Micēliju tīklā” (In the Mycelium Network) will open the program of the day at November 6th, 2025. This short performance will invite you into a reflective space and remind you that sustainability in theatre is not only operational but also artistic. Adapted from the dance work “Micēliju tīklā”, it draws inspiration from fungal networks and ecological intelligence. Two dancers slowly emerge from a shared costume, their movements evoking connection, transformation, and the quiet power of natural systems. It is a subtle, embodied gesture of sustainability that is felt rather than explained.
